CDs
In this day and age, the CD is probably one of the most common forms of technology. They’re everywhere and used for just about everything. They were such an advance from previous forms of data storage that their success sky rocketed and has today become a very generic and standard method of storing data, whatever data that may be. Although new technologies are becoming available, like portable USB sticks, or portable hard drives, the CD still remains one of the most common forms of software. Whether you buy a program, game or any type of software, they will all use CD’s, despite the fact that USB sticks are fast becoming smaller and smaller with larger and larger data storage. Although they may soon have more benefits than a CD in terms of storage capacity vs. physical size, because the CD is so commonly used already and everyone has computers with CD drives, or CD players, the CD is in no danger of being replaced.
CD’s are also a great and affordable way to store your data. If you are using this method to back up data, you would be advised to get reputable branded CDs that come with a guarantee, as you may find that some cheap CDs can wear away with time, and you will subsequently loose your data. Also you may want to consider getting DVD’s instead of CDs to burn your data onto, as you can get almost 6 times worth of data onto a DVD than a CD, so you’ll be saving money in the long run. But be sure to check that your computer is able to burn DVDs.
